MEET STEVEN

Steven Raga is the Assemblymember for District 30, representing the neighborhoods of Woodside, Elmhurst, Maspeth, and Jackson Heights. Elected in 2022, he is the first Filipino-American to be elected in New York state and the first South East Asian to hold state office in New York. The son of Filipino immigrants, Steven is a a community organizer, advocate, and a proud PSC-CUNY member.

Since being elected, Steven has championed issues for working-class New Yorkers like protecting affordable housing, providing quality education, and investing in our community. He has introduced over a dozen new pieces of legislation, and has cosponsored over 400 bills.

Before running for office, Steven served as a Chief of Staff to Assemblymember Brian Barnwell, where worked in partnership with so many of our own neighbors while learning about pertinent legislative and budget issues to Western Queens within the complex relationship of City and State politics. 

Steven has worked in local and national non-profits, fighting for key issues like housing, healthcare, and education. He’s also served on local non-profit boards and was a member of Queens Community Board 2 for six years.
